WxChallenge City #1: Jacksonville, FL (KJAX)

Greetings all! Our first city this year is Jacksonville, FL. I'm hoping to use this blog as a place to discuss the forecast challenges for each city as well as forecasting tips and tricks. You can enter your forecast: here . The forecasting time period is from 06Z to 06Z. So for Monday's forecast we'll be forecasting from 06Z Tuesday (2 am Eastern) to 06Z Wednesday (2 am). Forecasts are due by 00Z which right now is 8 pm Eastern time.

It looks like the first portion of the week in Jacksonville will be marked by mostly fair conditions. There is an area of low pressure over southern Florida which looks to remain over the southern portion of the peninsula. At the end of the forecast period, a cold front will be approaching the area but won't make it into northern FL. Climatology suggests highs in the mid 80's and lows in the mid 60's. This is in line with latest MOS (model temperature) forecasts. So in the absence of any significant weather features, looks like the best bet is for temps near climo values. There doesn't look to be any precipitation as the best lift/convergence is focused over southern Florida.

Good luck!
Hollis
